2017 Ladies Day

Wow what a fantastic day. Nice, sunny and on the warmer side. Nice and calm for the flotilla and the tribute for Clare. Topping things off was the super dinner for ladies day. Frank Clark and Sylvie Sabourin did an extraordinary job of organizing, preparing and planning the menu for the day.

Just a note, Frank and Sylvie are newer members. That was quite an introduction to Frank and Sylvie for many of the members of SYC. A big thanks also to Franks team, the men who helped out with the table settings, food preparation, serving, barbecuing, and clean up.

Who could have conceived and prepared such colorful unique floral arrangements for the table, containing golden rod, only a man. Thank you Charlie.

Nice to see some new faces, including some from visiting boats working in the kitchen and again thanks to Frank and Sylvie for hosting the supper. That’s what SYC is all about.

Below is the poem that was read by John Becker as a tribute to Clare Jordan. The poem was suggested to Barbara and she passed it on to John, which coincidentally he recalled the first few lines which were memorized by him when he was a very young boy who was always dreaming about getting a sailboat and sailing away.

Sea Fever

BY John Masefield

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.
